When You Look At Me

When you look at me,
What do you see?
Someone restricted within her beliefs?
Cannot think or gain freedom like everyone else?

When you look at me,
What do you see?
Someone illiterate, backward and boring?

Well, I beg to differ,
This is not me,
The true me holds my belief with dignity,
The true me respects myself,
Enough not to expose it to the pleasures of the world.

You see, I know my worth is much more than the worldly temptations,
The true me doesn’t have to boast about the knowledge I hold
In order to use it.

To the world I may be boring and backwards,
But to me I am fulfilling my Islamic duties
