Mentor Training Project
A group of volunteer professional members of RBPN undertook mentor
training sessions under the guidance of Hopwood Hall College.
The members of the group recognise the importance of supporting young
people through their time in education and training. Successful in their
own careers, the volunteers will also be able to use their own experiences
to offer advice, support and mentorship to members of the community.
Further training sessions will be available to volunteers and new members
will be welcome to participate.
What is a Mentor?
It's someone who...
Helps sort out any problems
Offers support and encouragement
Doesn't judge or criticise
Is outside everything else in a person's life
Who are they?
Member's of your community who understand what it is like to be a student
and have themselves experienced difficulties along the path to success
in education.
They can offer support and advice about studies and career opportunities.
Their backgrounds cover a range of subjects and various professions
which means that they are able to help young people who may be interested
in pursuing a particular occupational area.
How does it work?
Everything said is confidential
Meetings are flexible to meet all needs
Why should you or your child
work with a mentor?
They are members of your community who understand the problems that young
people studying may encounter.
They can offer advise on how to choose courses, pursue a particular career,
interview techniques and applications for courses/jobs.
They can enlighten you of what student life is all about and explain what
assistance they appreciated when they were studying themselves.
How can I find a mentor?
You can contact RBPN at the registered address where there will be a list
of mentors with contact addresses and telephone numbers.
